Emergency Kits Make Great Gifts

While you’re shopping for gifts this holiday season, remember emergency kits are items everyone can use but few people think to buy. They might not be the most fun holiday items under the tree, but they are a practical gift that’s sure to be appreciated. What could be more thoughtful than trying to help ensure someone survives should a natural or manmade disaster strike?

Some of the best emergency items to give as gifts are ready-made 72 hour kits designed for the period of time immediately following a disaster. You can purchase kits to suit as many people as needed so these can be given as a family gift. There are also single person emergency kits if you are giving a gift to someone who lives alone.

Emergency kits usually include food and water with a very long shelf life, waterproof matches, a first aid kit, thermal blankets, toilet items and a multi-function knife. They may include other items like vinyl gloves, face masks, rope and ponchos. There are many different varieties of kits you can choose from.

Elderly or disabled loved ones might not be able to benefit from kits that feature complicated water purification systems. Sometimes it’s best to keep things simple. On the other hand, a teenager on your list might think a more complex kit is cool and fun to learn about. Just like any gift you gift, tailor your emergency kit selection to the person you’re buying for.
