My wife and I have been renovating our house. We bought a fix-er up-er and we have been working on it ourselves, turning it into a investment. And so far, we have been doing pretty well.

One of the things I have not blogged about with our little project, is the fact that we opted for gas products 100% of the way. We have gas cookers, heaters, fire pits the works. (Though, unfortunately our fire pit is not quite as nice as the one in the link..)

This was a conscious choice and one we made for a couple of reasons.

1. Cost

Gas generally works out cheaper in the long run than electricity. And we saw this price difference only increasing in the future. With world oil prices unlikely to go down for a long while yet, the trend for high power pricing is here to stay.

2. Environmental

Gas is more environmentally friendly. We are not big greenies, but we are interested in a sustainable world situation. And I also for one, believe that having sustainability as one of your design considerations adds liquidity to your house. While perhaps at this stage not necessarily value, it does generally make your house easier to sell.

3. Feel

We like the feel of gas heaters more that electric ones.
