There is no Bubble..

There is no Bubble..

I was reading a great post today on the instigatorblog.com (another good one to add to the feed reader..) titled 9 signs the online job market is broken and it got me thinking about the whole notion of a web 2.0 bubble.

Some people are starting to get worried about whether the web is heading for another crash, similar to 2000.

What is different today?

I think there are some fundamental differences today than in 2000. Well, actually, one. PPC. Pay per click advertising has proven the earning potential of online media. And, it has also shown that the web converts. That is a pretty big difference to 2000.

What about a recession?

Economic sectors, like the web, go up and down. That is the nature of things. While, admittedly, they may be bull markets long term, like the stock market, all sectors go up and down. And what we have not seen, nor do we understand what it feels like online, is a normal down.

The finance market circumstances that prevail right now may push all associated markets (one third of online advertising is finance related..) down some.. it will be interesting to see what it feels like online..

Not A Bust

There is no bubble though, folks. There is no web 2.0 bust coming. Sorry to the doomsayers. You cannot predict that which does not exist. The bubble of the 90’s was that way because there was no proven monetization of the online media companies.. now there is, so there is no bubble.

Did I mention there is no bubble?
